The Volcano Room

Anger and frustration are common emotions during the grieving process
Our tour continues with The "Volcano Room", a room designed to allow children and teens who are grieving, a place to safely vent their angers and frustrations that often occur during the grieving or bereavement process. Anger and frustration are quite common as children struggle over the reasoning or meaning behind the death and loss of family, friends or loved ones. The emotional intensity in many cases of grieving may be extreme, so one of the rules for the "Volcano Room" is that a maximum of two children are allowed at any one time, plus an adult will be in the doorway to monitor activities.
Children may express emotions of anger and grief The "Volcano Room" has special foam rubber panels on the floors, walls and ceilings, creating a sound barrier between this room and others. Children are allowed to vent their anger, pain and frustration in this room, in a controlled and safe environment, rather than taking their emotions out on others or possibly causing harm to themselves in a less controlled or random location.

The Healing Place "Arts and Crafts Room"

The purpose of the"Arts and Crafts Room " is for children and teens to express their feelings through art and written expression. Dramatic play gives children a safe way to express their grief. The symbolic use of toys and role play is a healthy and natural mechanism for coping with the reality of death and the resulting grief.
