Candace Strait, Executive Director
Candace began working at the Healing Place in August 2019 as the School Program Coordinator. She received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of North Alabama and Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama with a concentration in Children, Youth and Families. She has been working in the field of social work for over 25 years, having been licensed as an independent clinical social worker since 2005. Candace’s background primarily includes child welfare, mental health, and geriatrics. Her experience includes having been a therapist, supervisor, as well as providing education, consulting and training to others and serving on several boards and committees in the community. She is married with two children. We are excited to have Candace in this new role.
Briana Williams, LMSW
Briana began working at The Healing Place in March 2020. She received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Birmingham-Southern College and her Master's degree in Social Work from The University of Alabama with the concentration in children, youth, and families. She has worked in the field of Social Work since 2012 and received her Social work license in 2013. Briana has worked in a variety of settings including: AIDS outreach, Community mental health, and transplant services. Briana will provide grief support for children both individually and school groups. She is passionate about helping children overcome obstacles and become their best selves.
Katie McWilliams, Children and Teen Program Coordinator
Nancy Cooper, Children’s Grief Counselor
Katie graduated from the University of Alabama in 2007. She obtained her Independent Clinical License in 2011 and Private Independent License in 2019. Katie has worked in a variety of settings including: The Department of Human Resources, Community Mental Health, United States Military, Therapeutic Foster Care, and Residential Substance Abuse. Katie was the Adult Grief Support Leader for the Healing Place in 2015 and is returning to work as a Grief counselor for children in both individual and school groups. Katie is also available to see adults individually at the Healing Place facility. Katie is married with 3 children of her own, ages 9, 5, and 3.
Nancy Cooper facilitates school groups in Franklin County. She volunteered with The Healing Place in 2002 (in the beginning) and has been employed by The Healing Place since 2004. She loves working with children and teens.
Nancy also served as a Safe and Drug Free School Counselor for Russellville City Schools. She holds a B.S. in Accounting and Management, a Master in Business Administration, and Master in Counseling from the University of North Alabama.
She has been married 40 years and counting. She has 2 daughters, 2 son-in-law, and 3 grandsons.
Tammy Weterrings, Office Manager
Tammy grew up in Killen, Alabama and attended Brooks High School. After twenty years of living in Kansas City, MO and Memphis, TN, she is so happy to back in the beautiful Florence, with her family. She started working at The
Healing Place in January 2020. She has worked twenty plus years in public accounting and office administration.
She has been married for sixteen years. She has thirteen year old triplets. She enjoys boating, traveling, biking, hiking and just spending
quality family time together.
