Dealing with Death in School

When a student or teacher in your school dies, everyone in your school community is affected. It is important to tell the staff and students as soon as possible, in a personal way. In smaller schools, the principal or school counselor can go to each classroom and tell the students the news. If possible, do not announce the news over the PA system or in a large assembly. Each student will respond differently and it's best to do it in a small group setting. It is important to inform all students, parents and staff about a death, not just the ones that you think knew them well. Click here to view the full PDF.
