DIVERSITY STATEMENT

Grief Support for All

The Healing Place is committed to ensuring that our grief support resources are accessible, welcoming, and relevant to all members of our community. The Healing Place does not discriminate based on characteristics such as race, gender, notional origin, citizenship, ethnicity, culture, disability, age, creed, religion, economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, and all other identities represented in our divers community. The Healing Place acknowledges that grief does not exist in a vacuum untouched by cultural and societal influence, and that marginalized communities are often disproportionately impacted by grief. Our goal is to provide a safe place for all children and families who are grieving a death, with increased recognition of societal, cultural, and historical factors that may impact grief and success to services.

My dad died when I was about to turn 5. It was hard tp get through it until we found The Healing Place. I started to go to groups there and they were very fun to do. Before we found The Healing Place, I thought I was the only one who had had a death but now I know I'm not alone. I have friends at The Healing Place, my family, and other friends who have somebody who died. How The Healing Place has helped me is by pushing my emotions to come out and make me more comfortable to talk about them and that makes me express my stress, anger, sadness, frustration, and negativity and they don't go rushing you to tell them about how you feel if you don't want to. They have an "I pass" rule which means you don't have to say who died or how you feel. They don't tell anyone what you said and they're really nice, and not only that they help you be a better person by telling you what or what not to say to others. Also, They play really fun games, and they have an anger room where you can take out all of your anger and it's okay to cry there. They will help you through anything. Not all people are comfortable sharing their feelings in front of a lot of people and that's okay because they do have single groups too. So if have lost someone please go to The Healing Place they are really good people with really good hearts.
